PERC panels are relatively new tech on the market and there are some particular reasons why they’re becoming the dominant panel in the industry. Passivated Emitter and Rear Contact cells are more efficient than typical PV solar cells because they have a back surface passivation layer – material on the back of the cells that reflects light back through the cell, reduces electron recombination (blockage of electron movement), and minimizes heat absorption. 5 benefits to know about are: 1% more energy production, 3% increased efficiency in low-light and high-heat confiditions, smaller roof footprint (cause you need fewer of them), lower BOS costs, and same manufacturing cost as traditional panels.
