Utilities are eyeballing Biden’s clean energy mandate

According to the top electric utility lobby group, Edison Electric Institute, Biden’s Clean Energy Standard of eliminating carbon emissions by 2035 is something the U.S. power industry is willing to run with provided there’s flexibility on how it’s achieved. One concern is that the breakthroughs required in renewable tech to meet the goal may not happen in time. Utilities want the option to earn bankable credits for overachieving early on and a provision that allows them to apply for one-year extensions to their compliance deadlines, for up to five years.
