The latest developments in night-time energy production

Stanford researchers have apparently upped the amount of electricity that can be generated from solar panels when the sun goes down. They’re tapping a process called radiative cooling, which harnesses the frigid vacuum of space. This team has devised a thermoelectric generator that harnesses the heat flow between the ambient air and the solar cell to produce 50 mW per square meter of nighttime power with an open-circuit voltage of 100mV.
