Ten Things Worth Reading This Week (8/27/21)

Consent based marketing in a competitive solar market means contacting more leads with more speed and efficiency. This comes from grabbing info via an website form or through a real-time data service – and reaching out promptly. There result? You avoid compliance risk issues and limit your outreach to high quality prospects that have opted in and are more likely to convert.

Via a new “grid equity” financing structure, Q CELLS North America is investing into a portfolio of solar+storage projects developed by Amped Solutions. Amped received capital from Q CELLS and will retain ownership of the systems, and Q CELLS gets rights to future grid services revenue that is generated by the operating systems deployed in California.

EnergySage got the lowdown from CollectiveSun, a company that partners with nonprofits and tax-exempt organizations to help them fund solar projects. They look at the company’s mission, proprietary funding model (Solar Power Agreement), CollectivePACE loan, and how they assist partners in choosing the most advantageous solar financing solution.

Tigo Energy has a new Tigo TS4-A-S rapid shutdown with module-level monitoring device for solar modules up to 700 W – something the company claims will minimize unnecessary truck rolls. The portfolio also includes TS4-A-F products for fire safety and the NEC where applicable plus the full-featured TS4-A-O for optimization, monitoring and fire safety.

Enphase Energy has opted to renew its partnership with GRID Alternatives, a nonprofit providing access to clean energy and jobs to disadvantaged communities. This means Enphase will continue to donate microinverter tech. Enphase tech is already powering 8,000+ homes in low-income communities and communities of color through GRID Alternatives’ programs.

Senate Majority Leader Schumer wrote that the approval of the bipartisan infrastructure bill and $3.5 trillion budget reconciliation package would mean almost reaching Biden’s goal of cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 50% at the end of the decade. Key are the Clean Electricity Payment Program, tax credits for renewable energy sources and EV incentives.

Sunrun partnered with Guild Education to create PowerU, a fully funded education and upskilling program to train and develop a clean energy market workforce to meet growing demand. The new program covers a whole range of degrees from a BA and an MA to professional certifications and provides access to 150+ flex education and upskilling programs.

Generac Power Systems’ home standby generators, C&I generators, and PWRcell solar+storage systems are now being offered as smart grid ready through Generac’s Enbala Concerto platform. As a result energy retailers and utilities have the flexibility to operate DERs in real-time and manage the growing complexities that come with VPPs.

FERC’s latest report says renewables accounted for 91.6% or 10,940 MW of the 11,940 MW of new capacity added from Jan-June 2021. Solar was 5,279 MW of this. Currently renewables provide 25.1% of total available installed generating capacity in the US, and they are on track to increase significantly by June 2024.

Top benefits of community solar: 1) accessibility for consumers who might miss otherwise out due to geographic limitations, lack of suitable financing options, upfront costs, price premiums, and property ownership requirements; 2) the subscription format offers an easy way to save on electric bills; 3) it means local sourcing; and 4) it encourages additive renewable energy.
