Perovskites solar cells, when paired with phosphorene nanoribbons (PNR), show over 21% efficiency – putting PV cells on par with traditional silicon cells. Given the abundance of perovskites, in contrast to silicon cells that are experiencing supply chain and labor issues, it could help fuel global solar growth into 2022 and beyond. PNR is made up of ultra-thin “2D” one atom thick layers that could also potentially enhance batteries, biomedical sensors, and quantum computing.
