Origami Solar has created a steel solar module frame meant to reduce costs and help handle supply chain restraints. It has a folded frame that’s roll-formed steel (rather than aluminum), meaning that it costs less to make and reduces emissions during production given that it needs less time and can tap local and regional supply chains. The product has been recognized by the DOE in their American-Made Solar Prize competition – it has advanced to the semi-final round and netted $50,000.
