Advocates push FERC to reject EEI request for monopoly on clean energy transition

Regulators, attorneys general and consumer advocates from eight states and DC are pushing FERC to reject the request by Edison Electric Institute (EEI), a trade group for investor-owned utilities, for incumbent utilities to have the right of first refusal to build transmission lines in their service territories that offer regional benefits. Officials are also advocating for an independent monitor to supervise transmission planning for separate regions in order to keep costs lower.
