The forecast for solar capacity is to triple in 5 years. SEIA and WoodMack are predicting that it will go from 129 GW today to 336 GW by 2027. However, they also say that the lingering impact of recent policies means that in the short term growth projections for solar are down to 15.7 GW.

S&P Global Ratings is reporting that the IRA’s boost around clean energy tax credits will spur growth for certain large clean energy companies and assist fossil-fuel-focused firms in more easily embracing clean energy tech. They point to particular businesses that will benefit such as NextEra Energy Partners, AES, Brookfield Renewable Partners, Clearway Energy and Pattern Energy Group.

From 2016-2020, carbon intensity of power generation dropped 18% nationally. Numbers varied by state: Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico had relatively high carbon intensity coupled with high solar irradiance levels while Wyoming ranked as the most carbon-intensive energy generator in 2020, generating 79% of its power from coal.
