CertainTeed, a building materials manufacturer, launched the low-profile solar roofing system Solstice. The offering is intended to simplify integration of solar technology into new and existing roofing systems with both shingles and traditional panels. The Solstice Shingle integrates with new or existing asphalt shingle roofing and apparently produces about as much energy as rack-mounted solar panels.
An international group of researchers has crunched the numbers and quantified floating solar’s potential around the world. Results show a generation potential of 9,434 TWh annually with the US leading with 1,911 TWh per year of potential, followed by China at 1,107 TWh per year, and Brazil at 865 TWh per year.
