In 2021 4 states raised the standards for their RPS or CES: Delaware, Oregon, North Carolina, and Illinois. Plus, Nebraska became the 20th state to commit to 100% clean electricity by 2050. This brings the total number of states with binding RPS or CES to 31 including DC with seven states having nonbinding renewable portfolio goals. States with legally binding RPS collectively accounted for 67% of total electricity retail sales in the US in 2020.
