SolarAcademy Journal – First Revenue in Week 4

Wow, it’s already the fourth week since we launched SolarAcademy.

A lot of good things are happening. It is amazing how things come together when one announces his dreams and the why behind it.

Good things that happened last week:

  • Started work on co-creating a “How to become a Solar Entrepreneur for Contractors” course with a leading education company in the solar/sustainability space.
  • Obtained detailed electricity consumption info on a property that is a great candidate for a ~100kW plus solar+storage solution.
  • Engaged with numerous former colleagues from CivicSolar on how to further advance our mission to spread solar knowledge. Former colleagues are looking to help in areas such as, course creation, website design, marketing, and more…
  • Generated our first “revenue” by guiding / coaching a friend (who is a real estate professional) on how to enter the solar industry as a developer.

Things to do this week:

  • Identify areas to improve in our website’s industry directory section
  • Further develop a list of featured solar installer partners
  • Identify and engage with solar installers who would be interested in contributing video content to the SolarAcademy community
  • Also explore other services which we can provide to those solar installers
  • Further analyze the statistical insights behind the daily emails we have been sending out

One other thing I have been working on in the past weeks is what I call the “Let’s measure your solar consciousness” quiz.

I played around with numerous quiz creation platforms like Quizlet and Interact trying to optimize the quiz experience. As I was testing the quizzes with friends, the common feedback was that I was making things too complicated.

And then, my brother said, why don’t you just simply say what you are trying to communicate to people. So I did just that in a few simple series of posts — which I called “Let’s increase your solar consciousness!” series. Click here to see them.

If you have any ideas or recommendations on how to create more engaging and more effective teaching experiences around this content, I am all ears…

As we start this week one of my favorite quotes is in my mind:

They can because they think they can.
– Virgil

I think of this quote frequently when I think about how I see SolarAcademy evolving over the next handful of years. I see SolarAcademy becoming a valuable platform for education around renewable energy, sustainable living, and more…

Until next week…
