The DOE has made $192 million available in funding to expand battery recycling R&D to push the domestic supply chain. This could grow the lithium battery market ten-fold by 2030 partially driven by increasing adoption of EVs and stationary energy storage. The funds fall into three buckets: consumer electronics recycling, a new advanced battery R&D consortium, and the continuation of a lithium-ion battery recycling prize the DOE launched in 2019.
