7 Things Worth Reading This Week (9/6/24)

Two studies have found that significant cost and time savings are possible with flexible “connect and manage” interconnection of large-scale solar and solar-plus-storage projects. This approach is known as an energy resource interconnection service (ERIS). With this approach, projects would be required to occasionally limit output so as not to thermally overload transmission lines.

SPW offers up a preview of the exhibitors at RE+ 2024. They round up a bunch of vendors and what they’ll be showing. Includes BOS companies, panel makers, energy management and more.

CEA reports a lithium battery oversupply and low prices predicted through 2028 despite the storage boom. They discuss how, despite falling raw material costs and U.S. policy support, North American battery suppliers are delaying or canceling planned capacity investments.

Hoymiles unveiled two of its latest offerings: HMS Series Microinverters and the HAS Battery Inverter meant to simplify the integration of solar and BESS. Specs include advanced remote O&M capabilities, a peak output power range from 350 VA to 2000 VA, 1-in-1, 2-in-1, or 4-in-1 input configurations, and rapid shutdown compliance. The HAS-LV-USG1 series is designed for retrofit applications.

A recent survey found American consumers overwhelmingly support renewables over fossil fuels. Key findings were: 1) Given a choice, most people prefer new renewables to new fossil-fuel generation sources, 2) Two-thirds of respondents said they would prefer that their electricity provider build more solar projects supported by storage to meet increasing demand rather than new natural gas or coal plants, 3) 48% of respondents had confidence that solar-plus-storage facilities were capable of meeting future electricity demands, 4) Americans are undereducated about their own energy requirements and future needs.

Solar Builder polled some developers about transmission permitting in the wake of FERC’s recent decision. They talk about impact on transmission, assess its overall effectiveness and discuss some of the choices they are making as a result.
