7 Things Worth Reading This Week (6/14/24)

A new residential solar dealership program launched in the US called Civic Renewables. It was formed by former leaders of Tesla Energy, SolarCity and Sunrun, and is the parent company to local clean energy businesses. It completed its first two acquisitions of local solar installation businesses: Green Rack Solar of PA and Ipsun Solar of VA.

Startup Swift Solar closed its $27 million Series A financing round, co-led by Eni Next and Fontinalis Partners. The company has raised $44 million of funding in total for its perovskite tandem solar products which include their advanced perovskite solar cells. They plan to push further into the US market.

The Trade Commission ruled there is a reasonable indication that the U.S. panel manufacturing industry is injured by imports of silicon solar cells and panels from Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. It is passing the decision to Commerce to see if they will initiate AD/CVD before the end of the year.

Longi is rolling out a 24.4%-efficient 660 W HPBC solar panel. The new Hi-MO 9 module is available in eight versions with power output ranging from 625 W to 660 W and power conversion efficiency spanning from 23.1% to 24.4%. It uses the company’s proprietary hybrid passivated back contact cell tech.

A report finds that American summer electric bills will rise 8% in 2024, alongside a drop in low-income aid. The average U.S. electric bill over the June-through-September period is projected to be $719. This is a 10 year record and is occurring in the face of climate change driving temperatures up.

Aurora announced new tools for solar pros to estimate a homeowner’s holistic energy needs and design whole-home electrification plans. Features include energy optimization, creating storage retrofit proposals, and comprehensive storage modeling. Users will be able to differentiate proposals with holistic energy plans and more easily build solar-paired or storage-only designs that meet homeowner energy needs.
