The Office of Public Participation (OPP) at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) actually has a budget! Funding for OPP means that renewable developers and consumer advocates could have some clout in the decisions FERC makes. The environmental justice community and other advocates will be able to weigh in on policies regarding climate change and energy transformation, and the public can now have complex FERC issues like minimum offer pricing and distributed energy resource aggregation translated for them. FERC Commissioner Richard Glick even tweeted: “consumers, landowners, & others that can’t afford expensive legal representation can [now] participate effectively in complex #FERC proceedings that have significant impacts on their lives.”
