This week, the new 29 year-old youngest ever Congresswoman (D) from New York (Bronx-Queens), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, said “If we do not do something about climate change, the world is gonna come to end in 12 years.”
White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders responded to that by saying we should leave the issue of Climate Change to “an authority much higher than of us”, meaning God.
And Ocasio-Cortez replied to that with a string of tweets saying the following:
“You shouldn’t need a Bible to tell you to protect our planet, but it does anyway.”
Genesis 1: God looked on the world & called it good not once, not twice, but seven times.
Genesis 2: God commands all people to serve and protect creation.
Leviticus: God mandates that not only the people, but the land that sustains them, shall be respected.
This reminded me of a webinar we did last year for CivicSolar’s installer customers with CollectiveSun. That was the first time I heard of “Creation Care”, a theological notion that says that humans should be stewards of the planet. You can hear more about “Creation Care” on minute 17 of this webinar:
CollectiveSun is a partner of CivicSolar and the leading financier of solar projects for Churches and other Nonprofit organizations in the US. They are also one of the leading crowd-financing platforms that enable solar projects.
