7 Things Worth Reading This Week (7/12/24)

Canary Media covers the possible impact of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the legal precedent called the ?Chevron doctrine.” They discuss the possibility of a flood of lawsuits meant to dismantle federal regulations that limit greenhouse gas emissions and air and water pollution that could make the clean energy transition more uncertain and costly.

Wood Mack’s latest predictions for global renewable growth are encouraging: 5.4+ terawatts of new solar and wind capacity over the next decade for a total of 8 TWac. Energy storage capacity will grow more than 600% with almost 1 TW of new capacity expected to come online over the next decade.

Enphase has released microinverters for commercial applications. Their IQ8P-3P microinverters support up to 480 W of peak output power for three-phase commercial installs and are compatible with a wide range of solar modules up to 640 W including 54, 60, 66, 72, and 144-cell panels with full or split cells.

Ohio-based Toledo Solar, cadmium telluride thin-film solar panel manufacturer, will end all R&D efforts and will begin shutting down operations effective immediately. The company had a 100 MW production line of modules for resi and C&I projects. However, First Solar had filed a lawsuit against them in 2023, which led to this business closure.

The U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) determined that the U.S. panel manufacturing industry is being materially injured by imports of silicon solar cells and panels from Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. They passed the decision-making to Commerce, which will decide if it wants to initiate AD/CVD before the end of 2024.

The Energy Storage Manager with Soligent and Fortress Power’s Director of Sales and Solutions Engineer lay out the ins and outs of the Fortress Power Avalon whole home backup with the included smart energy panel. They talk about how the system eliminates the need for inverter AC combiners, main electrical panel upgrades, and a critical load panel. They also hit on the flexible smart load management system. The video is below.

In The Pitch for Solar Builder the Head of Marketing in North America for APsystems discusses business challenges facing solar installers, and how a different approach to operations and installs using multi-module microinverters can boost profitability. The video is below.
