7 Things Worth Reading This Week (3/8/24)

SPW digs into best practices for installing on carports, looking at details regarding mounting, approvals, degrading building conditions and reinforcing, the role of feasibility studies and more.

The U.S. Solar Market Insight 2023 Year-in-Review report from SEIA and Wood Mackenize found that the US installed 32.4 GW in 2023, a 51% increase from 2022. For the first time, it accounted for more than 50% of annual capacity additions (at 53%). Predictions are that total U.S. solar capacity is expected to grow to 673 GW by 2034.

A 2023 survey of developers found the top problems with site selection were access to transmission lines; local pushback re land infringement, development noise, and “unsightly” solar farms; rules about protected waterways and endangered species, and protected cultural sites.

Massachusetts-based company 24M Technologies developed a direct material recycling method for their Semi-Solid battery platform. Dubbed Liforever, the process recycles all active material from the anode and cathode and is meant to reduce the adverse environmental impact of lithium-ion batteries both in process and at end-of-life.

Apparently, there are more efficient ways to assess everything from module procurement value to a site’s topography. SIFT is tech that helps developers and EPCs bring in system design, performance, and financial modeling early in the project cycle. It can ID the right racking system and layout, components, and construction, plus energy yield, returns, value, and more.

AIKO rolled out its latest GEN 2 N-type ABC (All Back Contact) modules for resi, C&I and utility-scale applications: their Neostar, Comet and Stellar’ series. These feature high-power output, partial shading optimization, micro-crack resistance, and high temperature restriction.
